Have any of you checked out the Vertigo message boards recently? I
never go there except to check the DC site for previews of future
Invisibles (my link, from ages ago, when I used to hang around the
Invisibles' message board that festers there, takes me directly to
it), but today I thought I'd have a bit of a browse. And guess what
I found? A link to the previews of Dc's books available in
January...... Yum.
The site contains a preview of Invisibles vol 3 #3. Turns out
Invisible Kingdom is a three part arc, instead of four. The rest
of it? Well go and have a look yourself. And you can even
believe it if you like......
It also previews "Kissing Mr Quimper", if anyone's
interested.

Found it!
Obviously it sounds wonderful, and I'm hoping this time Previews
is at least half-way close to accurate.
If "Invisible Kingdom" is only three issues, what's #1 gonna be?
Must be the Secret of the Universe, as foretold in the Book of
Grant.

Here's a few bits of the preview information that is there. People
should be warned that the information on previous issues has not
always been particularly ... well ... accurate.
________
Things move faster with the coming of the new millennium in Grant
Morrison's Invisibles. As 'Karmageddon' concludes, the series will
feature a reunion of both Invisibles artists, including Phil
Jiminez, Chris Weston, Jill Thompson and Philip Bond as well as the
return of Ragged Robin and Boy before the final issue which features
art by Morrison's Flex Mentallo and JLA Earth II partner, Frank
Quietly.
The Invisibles Volume 3 #4
Grant Morrison/Steve Yeowell/Jill Thompson/John Ridgway/Steve
Parkhouse/Philip Bond/Ashley Wood The countdown continues with Part
1 of the 3-part "The Invisible Kingdom," featuring contributions by
nearly every artist ever associated with the series. And it's a
reunion in more ways than one. Ragged Robin, former group leader and
telepathic witch, returns from the future coveting secret
information that could change the 21st century ó not to mention King
Mob's psychedelic-Romeo lifestyle. Past contributors Steve Yeowell,
Jill Thompson, John Ridgway, Steve Parkhouse, and Philip Bond are
joined by Ashley Wood (Spawn, Dark Horse Presents) as the Hand of
Glory reactivates, the Harliquinade reveals its true identity, and
the Invisibles are put to the test as the Royal Monster gets closer
to taking over the throne.
The Invisibles: Kissing Mister Quimper tp
The aftermath of the Invisibles' encounter with the Hand of
Glory; the impact of Quimper's mind control over reluctant team
leader Ragged Robin; and the return of the god/UFO from New Mexico
are just some of the stylishly mind-bending tales collected in THE
INVISIBLES: KISSING MISTER QUIMPER. This dizzying VERTIGO trade
paperback finishes the reprinting of the issues leading up to the
current 12-issue conclusion, collecting THE INVISIBLES Volume 2
#14-22, wrapped in a gorgeous new painted cover by Brian Bolland.
Written by JLA's Grant Morrison, with ultra-fashionable art by Chris
Weston, John Stokes, Ray Kryssing, Ivan Reis, and Mark Pennington,
KISSING MISTER QUIMPER opens with the aftermath of the battle with
the Archons, as King Mob's violent streak increases and other
interpersonal relationships strain the fabric of the team. This
leads into the events of "The Philadelphia Experiment," as the team
looks for John-a-Dreams in the City of Brotherly Love; "Black
Science II," in which the bizarre god/UFO from the New Mexico
facility resurfaces; and Ragged Robin's return to the future on a
world-saving mission that seems doomed to failure.

the 4-part "Karmageddon!" The psychedelic conclusion to the
second storyarc of Volume 3 reveals a traitor in the
Invisibles...one who joins Forces with the Cyphermen. Plus, King
Mob has his final confrontation with his inner psyche as Edith

I just got it very wrong. Of course, it's no 4, not 3. Stupid
Waddam. Therefore, Invisible Kingdom's not three, but four issues
long.
Don't blame me, I simply got a bit over excited and misread the
preview.
Still, very stupid.......

Fantastic to find that preview. So vol3, #4 is out in January. But
according the issue of previews for december releases there is no
listing for the invisibles. Strange things are happening, the one
thing we can be certain of is that the millenium is going to arrive
before the last issue. bet they wish they hadn't put that banner on
ever front cover.

They dragged the last 3 or 4 issues of Sandman out over around 6 or
7 months so it wouldn't be surprising if they say 'bugger the thos'
and do the same with Invisibles. Mind you, at least it would then
satisify the pedants who insist the new millenium doesn't start
until 2001...

A double-sized final issue...alright!!(Does that mean double the
ads?)
As for the Previews/Sandman debacle, didn't Neil Gaiman
plot/edit/extend/went with the flow/ as he wrote the "kindly ones"
arc, hence the misguided previews preview?
Though of course this is not the case with the Invisables, as
Grant had the plot figured for quite some time, ie v1.1!?

Yes boys and girls. The new millenium starts on Jan 1 2001 NOT Jan.1
2000. This is exactly why Arthur C. Clarke's 2001: A Space Oddyssey
is titled 2001 and not 2000. This is because there was no year 0. I
dont even think that the concept of 0 was invented back when they
started counting the years. Of course this also throws of the whole
idea of decades (i.e. the 90's actually being 1991-2000 instead of
1990-1999) this is because the first decade EVER started out with
the year 1 NOT 0.
Personally I have no idea why I am writing this. Just bored, I
guess...

For the millenium pedants, here is a couple of comments.
You are quite right in many ways - the early numbers were not
cardinals (1,2,3) but ordinals (first, second, third as in "the
first year of our lord") and therefore it is quite correct that two
thousand years will have passed only at the end of 2000. However,
since these cardinal numbers are counting FROM something that didn't
happen on the correct dates or even years, it becomes pretty bloody
arbitrary. The early records were fudged, Christ was supposedly born
several years after 0BC, and conventional usage treat the years as
cardinals. This being the case - either "correct" the system, taking
it from the birth of Christ and making this year something like
1994, or live with it and accept that the millenium happens at
1999/2000.

Right, I'm a bit confused. The Invisible Kingdom is described as a
three part story, but it begins in issue 4. This must mean that
we're not going to see the Invisibles in December (others have
mentioned this before), but also that the final episode does not
belong to the story arc. Great, it should be a "stand alone"
episode, in the same way that the last doom patrol was. OK, that's
sorted, assuming we have the correct information (with this comic
you can never tell). I'm no longer confused.
The artists' "jam" begins in issue 4 (as reality starts to fall
into the singularity, folding in on itself. How wonderfully poetic),
but, I gather that, Frank Quitely's drawing the last episode. This,
too, would make sense poetically: A new artist heralding the birth
of a new reality. So, Zeph, I'm pretty sure (assuming my information
is correct) that I'm right about this one. But, if I'm right about
the last episode not being an artistic "zoo", does that mean that
the rest of your info was faulty? I hope not. I'd really like to see
a double sized issue, especially after the irreverent crap that
spilled into the last episode of Doom Patrol: Hey kids, Grants' run
on Doom Patrol's over, the story's complete, only......it isn't!
Bullshit.

- Of course, as RAW is fond of pointing out, it's only nearing the
millenium on the Western/Christian calendar. One billion Chinese,
one-sixth of our planet's population, could give a shit. Besides,
don't you people know the world ended 40 years ago? Where were you?
- Sandman stretched out b/c Gaiman and Vess took their sweet time
on it. Grant said on nextplanetover that he was wrapping up the last
arc, so I wouldn't expect any great delays.
